Technology has changed how we approach health and fitness. There have been a lot of different companies that have made products and services that have leveraged technological advances. In doing so, it has made it easier for people to make themselves fitter and healthier. A lot of people nowadays use fitness bands to keep track of their steps when they go out on a walk. There are also a lot of different subscription-based services that will help you do exercises in the comfort of your home. Even gym equipment have been equipped with screens so you can keep up with the routines and check your progress all in one place.
BetterMe is a health and fitness-related company that was founded in 2016. There isn’t much to the app that’s different from its competitors. Though their mission statement seems to be along the lines of wanting the people who use the app to “create happiness within them.” It’s definitely an interesting take on the whole fitness aspect of it. They seem to consider people’s mental health into the equation. Which I appreciate. Sometimes you do have to care of yourself physically and emotionally. It’s never just one or the other. It should always be both.
There are two different apps that BetterMe offers. The main app that most people have downloaded is the Health Coaching app. There is also version geared towards mental health which offers guided meditation and other self-help programs. It’s not unusual to have separate apps like that. It’s good that there are two dedicated apps for physical fitness and mental health. Both apps are free to download on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, as most apps do. On the Health Coaching app, you get a 7-day free trial. They also had another app specifically made for its male users, though it seems like they just merged that app with the regular health coaching app.
It doesn’t seem too different with other fitness apps that’s available out there. When you first open, you will be welcomed with a log-in screen. If you don’t want to sign up immediately, you can skip it. You will then have to answer a relatively short quiz. The quiz will basically serve as the basis of the plans that they will eventually give you. It’s actually a very detailed quiz. It even takes dietary restrictions into account. After you finish the quiz, the app will immediately ask you to pick what kind subscription plan you want to pay for. It doesn’t seem like you have to pay separate fees for the workout and meal plans. It seems both are already included in the subscription. The cost ranges from $4.99 for a weekly plan to $120 for a year plan.
The price doesn’t seem too high for a subscription service. Though it’s probably best to go with the monthly plan than the weekly plan. Once you’ve chosen a plan you can now start using the app. That’s basically it. Certain workout plans will be locked if you decided not to subscribe to the service. You do get a few workout plans if you decided to take up a free trial. But you can’t really try much else beyond that. It’s not unusual for apps or service to restrict certain parts behind a paywall. If you’re going to use a fitness app, you will likely have to pay in order to use all of its features.
From what I’ve seen, it doesn’t look any different from the other fitness tracking apps out there. You get very detailed workout plans that also includes videos on how to do certain exercises. There are a lot of things that are on the app. And it seems like most of them are decent enough, for the most part. If you’re somebody who’s just started to work out, you may need to buy a lot of different equipment that you may need for some of the exercises. Though it’s mostly just dumbbells that you need to buy. Maybe a yoga mat, too.
Being fit demands a lot of time and effort from you. Aside from the short exercises that will take you about 30 minutes or so to complete, you also have to prepare the meals that will get recommended to your meal plan. Preparing meals take a lot of time and money, especially if the ingredients needed aren’t as easily available at your local grocery. There are a lot of externals factors to consider, even though the workout plans are tailored for you. You do have to be consistent in doing the work.
