There are a lot of actors who started doing sitcoms for places like the Disney Channel or Nickelodeon. I feel like there is sometimes that pipeline from doing shows for a channel targeted at a younger audience to doing roles for shows for channels targeted to a broader, albeit, older audience. I think you just kind of grow out of doing the show you spent most of your childhood doing. There will come a time where either the network no longer wants to do your show or you no longer want to do your show.

But sometimes that sort of leads you to doing made-for-television movies for that same channel. There’s definitely the feeling for some of the made-for-TV movies that make it feel like they didn’t put that much into producing it. It’s sort of different. But you’re still working for the same channel.
The thing about starting out from doing kids shows is that it’s hard to get work as you grow older. I think once people see you as that one character you played, it’s hard to get out of it. I don’t think that people who start on the Disney Channel nowadays receive the same level of fame as those from two decades ago. I think the change in how people watch shows like that lead to not many getting a bigger break.
Although, it seems that some have managed to move on to do more mature stuff that they wouldn’t have been able to do before. Some have managed to build an audience because of their appearances on the network but it’s hard to maintain it in the long run. But sometimes the opportunities show up sooner than you realize.
I had only known of Sofia Wylie because of her role in the Disney+ series “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.” She played the role of Gina Porter who was a new student in the high school where the High School Musical trilogy was filmed.
The show was basically in the form of a documentary chronicling the period where one of the drama teachers decided to do a stage adaptation of the first High School Musical movie. It’s definitely an interesting premise that pays tribute to a movie that helped put a random high school on the map.
But what I didn’t know about Sofia Wylie was that she actually started out as a dancer. She had started dancing when she was five. But was also trained in acting. Her dancing career mostly started when she joined the competition shows “So You Think You Can Dance?” and “America’s Got Talent.” During that time, she also danced during Justin Bieber’s Purpose world tour.
She has her first major role when she got cast in the Disney Channel series “Andi Mack.” The show was created by the same creator who created “Lizzie McGuire.” The show lasted for three season. I think it was after “Andi Mack” wrapped up production that she got cast for “HSMTMTS.” It’s definitely a quicker turnaround that most actors don’t really get the chance to have.
Sofia Wylie doesn’t really much else going for her in terms of a filmography. Her career only started about seven years ago. So it’s normal that she hasn’t really gotten much else. She did manage to make her film debut in the 2019 film “Back of the Net.” It’s actually kind of insane how, as “Andi Mack” was nearing its end, Sofia already had a few projects that would be releasing that same year.
Her most recent project was the Netflix film “The School for Good and Evil.” At this point, Sofia Wylie has a net worth of $200,000. I mean, it shouldn’t be a surprise that she doesn’t really have that big of a net worth. She still hasn’t really done a lot of other work after that. Though she still has a lot of time to do a lot more stuff in movies or television.
You never really would have expected a lot of people to shift from one type of artistry to another. Though it’s not uncommon for people to have different skillsets. People can do whatever they want.
